The Oprah Winfrey Show , often called just Oprah , is a nationally broadcast syndicated talk show for 25 season from 8 September 1986 to 25 May 2011 in Chicago, Illinois. Produced and hosted by namesake, Oprah Winfrey, remains the highest daytime talk show in American television history.

The show is very influential, and many of its topics have penetrated American pop-culture awareness. Winfrey has used the show as an educational platform, featuring book clubs, interviews, self improvement segments, and charities to world events. The show does not seek to benefit from the products it supports; he does not have a license agreement with the retailer when the product is promoted, or the event does not make money from authorizing the book for his book club.

Oprah is one of the longest daytime television tabloid talk shows in history. The event received 47 Daytime Emmy Awards before Winfrey chose to stop submitting it for consideration in 2000.

In 2002, TV Guide rated # 49 on TV Guides ' 50 Biggest TV Show All Time. In 2013, they placed it as the 19th largest TV show of all time.

This event is rooted in A.M. Chicago , a half-hour half-hour talk show hosted on WLS-TV, ABC-owned and operated station in Chicago. Winfrey took over as host on 2 January 1984 and, within a month, took it from last place to first place in local Chicago rankings. Following the success of Winfrey at - and the Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee - her performance as Sofia in The Color Purple , on September 8, 1986, the talk show was relaunched with the current title and picked up nationally. For the premiere, the show's producers strive to order Don Johnson's Miami Vice "as the first guest, even trying to bribe him with Dom PÃÆ' Ã © rignon and a pair of rhinestone sunglasses. All attempts to order Johnson fail and Winfrey decided to "do what we did best, and it was a show about and with ordinary people." The topic for the premiere was "How to Marry a Man or Woman of Your Choice".

At the start of season 12 of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Winfrey admits she is "tired" and is considered quitting. However, when filming the 1998 Beloved, Winfrey later admitted that it took him back to his responsibilities as a black woman who was admired with immense power and influence. He realizes that being in such a position in the media industry, he can make a positive difference in people's lives. Winfrey is once again inspired to continue helping people control their fate better, because of that slogan, "Live Your Best Life".

I made a decision... in the midst of doing Beloved . I did some scenes - Beloved is about a former slave, and during the process of doing that I connect with really what slavery means, and my ancestors and personal history connect it in a way I have not read all about history Black and, you know, talk to relatives. And I realize that I have no right to stop coming from the history of those who have no voice, who have no power, and that I have been given this - this blessed opportunity to speak to people, to influence them in a way that can make a difference in their lives, and just use them.

In a 2008 interview with Larry King, Winfrey announced that in 2011, although there will be a full season of his show in that year, he will not renew his contract, thus ending the show.

Oprah & amp; _Gayle's_Big_Adventures "> Oprah & amp; Gayle Great Adventure

Winfrey and Gayle King are friends. In 1976, Winfrey worked as a newsreader in Baltimore when he met King, a production assistant. The two attach themselves to a blizzard when Winfrey tells the King that he can stay at his house to wait. Their friendship is often showcased at events when the best friends decide to travel together.

In 2004, they traveled back in time, participating in the PBS series of Colonial Houses . The series is intended to recreate daily life at Plymouth Colony in 1628. Their Puritan 24-hour adventure includes chopping wood, cooking on open flames, fighting with rats, and using leaves for toilet paper.

Winfrey and King joined 60 women for a spa holiday in 2006. They spent five days at Miraval Life at Balance Resort and Spa taking part in self-improvement exercises. For an exercise called A Swing and a Prayer, the women were raised 40 feet in the air and ordered to release it. Once in the air, the King - who is afraid of heights - will not let himself fall. Winfrey could not help laughing as King stayed in the air but eventually persuaded him to let go.

In the summer of 2006, Winfrey and King decided to make an 11-day overland journey across America, from California to New York, 3,600 miles. They are eager to meet people from small towns and see how America really lives. However, the initial excitement quickly disappears. Apart from the challenges of land travel, they can see the beauty of Sedona, meet people from the Navajo Nation, crash into weddings, swim in the healing waters of Pagosa Springs, and learn about the Amish culture. The sheer number of driving anxiety Winfrey and King's deaf-tone singing made this trip a great success for viewers.

Friends visited the State Fair of Texas in 2009. They played fair traditional country games like Flip-the-Chick and water gun competitions. They try many of the fried foods offered at the show and win the best "Best of the Show" food contest.

For the farewell season, best friends hit the road again for an overnight camping trip in Yosemite National Park. Park ranger Shelton Johnson writes to Winfrey because he is concerned about the low number of African-Americans who visit the park every year. So Winfrey and King packed their camper and went to Yosemite to help Johnson attract visitors. When they arrived, Johnson took Winfrey and King around the park to see some of his famous sites including Mariposa Grove and Tunnel View, where El Capitan was seen in the distance. On the way to the camp, Winfrey made a sharp turn that led to their trailer on rocks. After preparing their pop-up camper, the two mix Mules of Moscow to faint into their camping neighbors. The drink has become a special cocktail of Oprah . The next day they took fishing lessons and wrapped them in mules.

His popular performance on Tuesday at the show led to his own talk show, Dr. Phil , in 2002.

Impressive moments

On November 10, 1986, during a show about sexual harassment, Winfrey revealed that she was raped by a relative when she was nine years old. Since this episode, Winfrey has used the show as a platform to help capture child predators, raise awareness, and vote for victims.

Liberace appeared in the first season of the show on December 25, 1986. He performed a Christmas medley; Winfrey says it's "the most beautiful I've ever heard". Six weeks later he died of a heart attack due to congestive heart failure caused by subacute encephalopathy. The episode was the final appearance of Liberace television.

The show only aired for six months when, in 1987, Winfrey traveled to Forsyth County, Georgia, a community where, for 75 years, no blacks had ever lived. Winfrey brings attention to racial tensions in the area. The show was formed as a town hall meeting where residents expressed their divisive opinions on the issue. The meeting got hot when a woman stood up and said:

I just hate to think that someone will get hurt before people understand about them and talk about it and make it like... black and white together in Forsyth County. There is no other way.

The "Diet Dreams Come True" episode of November 15, 1988 has been one of the most talked-about moments in the history of the show. After years of struggling to lose weight, Winfrey finally managed to do it. In July of that year, he had started the Optifast diet while weighing 212 pounds. At Autumn, he weighed 145 pounds. To commemorate the achievement of his weight-loss goals, Winfrey pushed a fat-filled cart to represent the 67 pounds he had lost in his diet. She flaunts her slim figure with a pair of 10 Calvin Klein jeans. However, after returning to real food, he quickly regains most of his lost weight. Winfrey now refers to the moment as "ego in the salom pom pom."

While performing an event focused on female drug users in 1995, Winfrey opened up his personal history with drug abuse:

I am very much in touch with your story. In my twenties, I have done this drug [cocaine]. I know exactly what you are talking about. This is the big secret of my life. This is a secret because I realize that the public person I am becoming, if the story was ever disclosed, the tabloids will exploit and what big problems will happen. But I was involved with a man in his twenties who introduced me to [cocaine].... I always felt that the drug itself was not the problem, but I was addicted to the man. I have often said over the years in my attempts to come out and say it, I have said repeatedly, 'I do a lot of things in my twenties I feel ashamed,' 'I have done things I feel guilty about. 'And that is the great secret of my life that has been held on my head.... I understand the shame and I understand the mistakes, I understand the secrecy, I understand all that.

In 1996, Winfrey spoke with seven from Little Rock Nine and three former white classmates who tortured the group on their first day of high school in 1957 as well as a student who had been friends with them. Winfrey is grateful to have the remaining members of Little Rock Nine on his show because he appreciates his success for those who have contributed to the Civil Rights Movement that paved the way for people like himself.

Comedian Ellen DeGeneres appeared openly as a lesbian during her performance on show in 1997 after appearing on the cover of Time magazine next to the title "Yep, I'm gay." At that time, DeGeneres was the star of his own sitcom, ABC Ellen . The episode brought Winfrey the most hateful letters he had ever received.

Clemantine Wamariya and his sister Claire appeared on the show in 2006 when Wamariya was selected as one of the winners of an essay contest hosted by Winfrey. It was revealed that his siblings had not seen their parents in 12 years after escaping from Rwanda during the 1994 genocide. Winfrey surprised the sisters by flying their families to Chicago for one of the most emotional reunions on the show.

In 2007, the Marines of the Pioneer Company of the Second Armored Guard Corps and their naval officers made their first stop show after a seven-month tour on the front line in Iraq. Winfrey welcomes the Marines with a great celebration where they are reunited with the people they love on the show.

On November 11, 2009, Charla Nash, who was persecuted by his friend and his employer, Lightning chimp Sandra Herold, Travis, came to the event to speak for the first time about the horrific attack that occurred just nine months earlier. Nash wore a veil every day because the attack left a severe wound on his face and he "did not want to frighten people." During the show, he agreed to raise his veil for the first time in public.

While recording the premiere of the 24th season on September 8, 2009, an entire audience of 21,000 people, gathered at the Magnificent Mile in Chicago, surprising Winfrey by performing a synchronized dance to the appearance of The Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling" (With the new lyrics giving congratulations to Winfrey about the longevity of the show). The dance has been choreographed and trained for weeks by a group of core dancers, who taught it to the entire audience the previous day.

During the farewell season, two hundred people who were persecuted came forward as part of a two-day event in 2010 to take a stand against sexual harassment. The men were joined by director and producer Tyler Perry, who was also sexually abused. Winfrey hopes that the episode will help victims who suffer in silence to let go of shame.

On January 24, 2011, Winfrey revealed that before Thanksgiving 2010 she has found she has her step sister. Winfrey decided to share the news on his show because he knows his story will eventually come out and want to be the first to solve this problem.

Gift

At the 2004 season premiere, everyone at Winfrey shows a new car donated by General Motors worth about $ 8 million in total. For the show's premiere season premiere, studio audiences of 300 "main fans" are rewarded with a trip to Australia with Winfrey (donated by the Australian tourism agency). Other giveaway shows include the annual Oprah Favorite Goods show, where studio audiences receiving Winfrey products are considered good Christmas gifts.

Controversy

In 1996, on a discussion of mad cow disease, Winfrey stated that the fear of the disease had "stopped me cold from eating another burger!" Texas cattle ranchers thought the quote was tantamount to defamation, and immediately sued him for defamation. The show still produced new episodes during the trial and could not get into reruns, so production was forced to move to Amarillo, Texas for a period of about a month during the trial. The silencing command means Winfrey is not allowed to mention the trial on his show. Winfrey found irresponsible. The trial and move to Amarillo caused Winfrey to meet Phil McGraw; Winfrey made McGraw a regular guest on his show shortly afterwards, which eventually led to McGraw getting his own show, produced by Harpo Productions from Winfrey.

A controversial episode, aired in 2005 (though initially aired on an obscure notification in October 2003), saw the guests discussing the sexual act of "rimming", sparking criticism. The FCC accepted the breeding of complaints from angry parents, whose children watched the show in a gap at night in many television markets. However, most of the FCC correspondents are encouraged to write by Howard Stern, the noteworthy targets of the agency, as well as Jimmy Kimmel, in an effort to expose the FCC's double standards.

During the 2008 presidential election campaign, Winfrey was criticized for apparently refusing to invite Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin to his show until after the election.

An 2009 episode drew criticism from the crowd after Winfrey suggested mothers should buy a vibrator for their teenage daughter.

Winfrey's program was criticized for showing supporters of alternative treatments such as Suzanne Somers and denial of Jenny McCarthy's vaccine.

Ahead of the Winfrey tour to Australia, the show was heavily criticized for broadcasting a segment sponsored by McDonald's Company claimed by Australian TV personality Carrie Bickmore that Australians like to hang out in "McCafÃÆ'Â © s" hip. This Australian cultural depiction was greeted with surprises by many Australians, and anger across the Australian coffee industry, claiming that the statement did not accurately reflect the industry, painted Australian coffee drinkers in a bad light, and hoped that the industry would be negatively affected by statement. In the same episode, McDonald's products were distributed to studio audiences.
