Tema
"Prayer" is inspired by two lyrics. The first incident was the death of vocalist David Draiman, the second of which was the September 11 attacks, especially the response made by the clergy to the event. Draiman explains, "Instead of entertaining their flock, [priest] people like Jerry Falwell and Oral Roberts punish them and use this situation as a means of empowerment, saying it is our own fault because we are decadent and indecent people I just think that the whole idea is ridiculous. "Therefore," Prayer "is about the conversation between Draiman and God. In the conversation, Draiman tells God to "bring him" if he tries to use the pain to get a response from Draiman.

Music video
"Prayer" was directed by Brother Strause as a music video in late June 2002 and released the following month. Vocalist David Draiman, who writes care for music videos, explains that the music video is based on the biblical story of Job. Throughout the music video, Draiman walks down the street and passes scenes of despair, like a whore, a homeless man, and a priest who predicts the end of the world. As Draiman continued walking, other members of the Disturbed suffered various disasters upon them, and were allegedly killed. (Steve Kmak is buried beneath the wreckage that crashed, Dan Donegan crashed his car, and Mike Wengren was hit by a nearby construction boom.) At the peak of the music video, Draiman survived the earthquake, and the remaining band members finally came back to life and gathered Draiman to play the last chorus. Draiman explains, "It is like Job who is through trials and tribulations and still comes through impeccably and reaches his redemption."
After being released, various media refused to broadcast a music video for "Prayer", citing alleged similarities to the image of the September 11 attacks on the United States. Initially interrupted made plans for video editing to be played, but ultimately chose not to. Draiman explains this option when he says, "If we agree to edit the video... then it assumes that we agree with the decision that something about the video is quite offensive or provocative so it is dangerous for them to play. We do not agree with that." Draiman further criticizing the decision to take video from the air, not another video, "We do not have characters in our video depicting Osama bin Laden and jumping and dancing around, which is a direct recolective factor to 9/11."
The purpose of the music video was not to illustrate the resemblance to the September 11 attacks, according to Draiman. He explains this by saying, "It was meant to be apocalyptic, but it was never meant to be a derivative of the situation that occurred on 9/11 because the subject... we needed something magnificent like an earthquake or a meteor. God to show supernatural power or greater power. "He further explained that the video was actually meant to be uplifting. Draiman said, "[This video] is about going through life's obstacles and all the tests that your fate might have caused. This tries to convince you that you have the power to get through all the trials and tribulations that may come to you. This should inspire hope." "Prayer" received a bit of broadcast, Disturbed continued to promote music videos by putting them on their albums, Believe , and by posting them on various websites.
