Histori

The company started in 1946 when Està © e Lauder and her husband Joseph Lauder began producing cosmetics in New York City. They first brought only four products: Cleansing Oil, Skin Lotion, Super Rich All-purpose Creme, and Creme Pack. Two years later, in 1948 they set up their first shopping mall with Saks Fifth Avenue in New York.

Over the next 15 years, they expanded their reach and continued to sell their products in the United States. In 1960, the company started its first international account at a department store in London, Harrods. The following year opened an office in Hong Kong.

In 1964, they introduced Aramis, a line of fragrance and care products for men named after exotic Turkish roots that were originally used as aphrodisiacs. In 1967, Està © Å © e Lauder itself was selected as one of the Top 10 Leading Women in Business in the United States by business and financial editors. This was followed by the Spirit of Achievement Award from Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in 1968. That year, the company expanded again, opening Clinique Laboratories, Inc. Clinique was the first guided skin doctor (Dr. Norman Orentreich), allergy tested, a fragrance-free cosmetic brand made by Està © Å © e Lauder.

The brand Clinique Està © e Lauder became the first women's cosmetics company to introduce second-line men when, in 1976, they started a separate line called "Skin Supplies for Men", which continues to be sold at Clinique counters worldwide. In 1981, the company's products became available in the Soviet Union.

In the 1990s, brand acquisitions and licensing agreements contributed to explosive growth when the Company transformed from family-owned businesses into family-controlled and family-controlled companies. The decade opened with the creation of Origins - the first health brand in US department stores. The first licensing agreement for the fragrance was with fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger in 1993, followed by Kiton, the Italian fashion house (1995), and with American clothing designer Donna Karan (1997).

The brand acquisition began with an investment in Montreal-based MoAoC Cosmetics in 1994, which the company later acquired in 1998. Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, designed by renowned makeup artists, was obtained in 1995, like La Mer - along with original recipes for the product the luxury, CrÃÆ'¨me de la Mer, which contains Miracle Broth (TM) is rich in nutrients. The company ventured into the first hair care and holistic beauty brand with Aveda in 1997. The famous fragrance house of Jo Malone London was acquired in 1999.

On November 16, 1995, The Està © e Lauder Companies became a public company on the New York Stock Exchange, priced at $ 26.00 per share ($ 6.50 on a post-split basis).

The Està © e Lauder brand sometimes has a spokesperson icon, sometimes referred to simply as 'face'. Past faces for Està © e Lauder include Karen Graham, Bruce Boxleitner, Shaun Casey, Willow Bay, Paulina Porizkova, Elizabeth Hurley, Carolyn Murphy, supermodel Liya Kebede is the first African American 'face' of Estee Lauder, Anja Rubik, and actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Designer Tom Ford started the project with the Company and then an agreement was signed with him (2005) to develop and distribute fragrances and cosmetics under the brand Tom Ford Beauty.

On July 1, 2010, the company acquired Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Inc., a brand made at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, California, by the brothers Dean and Davis Factor (as in Max).

On October 28, 2011, Aramis and Designer Fragrances, a division of The Està © e Lauder Companies Inc., and Tory Burch LLC announced the signing of a multiyear agreement for the exclusive world license of the Tory Burch fragrance business. This partnership marks the first step of Tory Burch entering the beauty industry. The first Tory Burch fragrance product was introduced in 2013.

Controversy

SOPA

Està © e Lauder Companies appear on the list of major corporations that support SOPA, the controversial but unsuccessful Congressional anti-piracy bill, considered excessive by critics.

Child labor

In 2001, it was reported that children were found working in a factory in Cambridge, New York making a product for Origins, one of the natural product brands of Estee Lauder. Contracted companies are Common Sense Natural Soap & amp; Body care, owned by a group led by Yoneq Gene Spriggs. Estee Lauder said that it was soon moved to terminate the contract with a manufacturer that has been in business for 5 years, claiming that they were completely unaware before the initial inspection.

Animal Testing

The Està © e Lauder Companies conducted a test of non-animal and human volunteers to assess the safety and efficacy of the product. The Està © e Lauder Companies perform animal testing where required by law. The Chinese government needs testing on animals for many cosmetic products. This led to controversy for smaller brands that were "cruelly free" but bought by Està © e Lauder. Està © e Lauder became the parent company of the brand and the smaller profit through smaller brands. Customers worry that by continuing to buy from these previously cruel free brands they may contribute to animal testing through the parent company.
