Careers
Initially larger, five pieces are called Catch 22, members are childhood friends who go to Yateley School together in Hampshire where they live. They are then pruned into a quartet. Phill Harrison (bass) went to join the Fire Brigade. In 1984, singer David Glasper, guitarist Marcus Lillington, drummer Ian "Spike" Spice, and bass guitarist Michael "Mick" Delahunty started working on some demos. The songs were introduced to personnel from Siren Records label, and led to a record deal with Virgin Records (distributed by A & M Records in the US). Breathe released their debut album, All That Jazz , in April 1988. The album contains two of the group's most famous hits, "Hands to Heaven" and "How Can I Fall?". The first charted in No. 2 in 1988 and at No. 1. 4 on the UK Singles Chart, and the last chart on the Billboard Hot 100 in No. 1. 3. "Hands" also entered into Billboard ' s Year 1988-Top End 10 in No. 9.
Bassist Michael Delahunty left the group in 1988 when Breathe would reach the pinnacle of their success, and the remaining three were followed by promotions for albums and singles at All That Jazz. After that, they continued with this line-up and released their second and final studio album Peace of Mind in August 1990.
Their sound is a combination of light jazz with some pop and soul. However, the band's success was short-lived. Sales for their second album are low although many radio stations play some tracks. They disbanded in 1992.
Drummer Ian "Spike" Spice died in 2000. David Glasper has made a demo tape posted on YouTube in recent years. Marcus Lillington and Phil Harrison are still playing together at Stroke the Toad .
