Camp summer or night sleep camp is a supervised program for children or teenagers performed over the summer in some countries. Children and teenagers who attend summer camp are known as camping . Summer schools are usually an academic curriculum that is required for a student to make unfinished work during the academic year, while summer camps may include academic work, but are not a requirement for graduation.
The traditional view of summer camps as woody spots with hiking, canoeing and bonfires is changing, with greater acceptance of a new kind of summer camp offering a wide range of special activities. For example, there are camps for performing arts, music, magic, computer programming, language learning, math, children with special needs, and weight loss. In 2006, the American Camp Association reported that 75 percent of the camps added new programs. This is largely to counter the tendency in reducing enrollment in summer camps, which some argue has been caused by smaller family sizes and the growth of additional educational programs. There are also summer camps affiliated with religion, such as those run by Christian groups and various denominations of Judaism.
The main purpose of many camps is educational, athletic, or cultural development. The summer camp environment allows children to learn new skills in a safe and fun environment.

Organization
In most camps, young adult or juvenile supervisors are called counselors or "cabin leaders". In many camps, counselors are assigned to small camping groups, called "beds", "huts", "cabins", or "units", which participate in activities as groups, such as campfire, climbing, canoeing , swimming, natural knowledge, arts and crafts. Counselors often share accommodation with their groups.
In the United States, counselors for residential camps are usually drawn from older adolescents and college-age adults (early 20s) due to temporary, seasonal, and low aspects of work. International staff are often hired with their American counterparts through an agent who checks the previous staff. Overall camp supervision is usually done by older camp directors, who lead teams that include chefs, sports instructors, nurses, maintenance personnel and counselors. Directors and maintenance personnel have long-term affiliation with summer camp. The professional camp staff organizes the preparation of facilities and supplies for the camp season and supervises the maintenance of the camp during the quiet season. The camp director conducts recruitment of seasonal counselors, instructors, and support staff, often during a workweek held on campus or on online job boards.
In some camps, all campers spend the night in the cabin and eat all their meals in the cafeteria. In some camps, â ⬠<â ⬠The practice of running a holiday home for children away from their own homes appears to have originated from Appenzell in the Alps in 1876, when Pastor Bion set up a holiday camp where children made tree houses, sang songs, did dramas, made kites and has an adventure game. The postwar French used Father Bion's model to take on children who grew up during the war years, away from the cities, and their 'colony de vacances' scheme became state-controlled, part of their country's education system for all children. American camps develop from very different cultural roots. Maps Summer camp
Worldwide
Australia
Summer camps are largely absent in Australia, as the Australian summer holidays (known as Christmas holidays) only last between six and eight weeks, and occur during Christmas and New Year, shorter than in North America. Most children participate in school camps, Girls/Scout camps, or school holiday camps with several religious groups (Like the Seventh Day Safety and Seventh Day Army) hold a Summer Camp for a week. Girl Guides and Scouts offer a 'jamboree' which is a camp for 1 to 2 weeks. The camps of several weeks are next to never happened before.
Many Australian youth music organizations hold annual summer training camps including the Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Association and Gondwana Gondwana National Choir School. In addition to the Seventh Day Adventist Camp Camp, most holiday camps are referred to as "Adventure Camps", as most do not happen during the summer. Many groups host holiday camps for Primary children, and often run week-long adventure camps during Spring, Autumn and Winter vacations.
The Australian Defense Force cadet often and almost exclusively runs their camps and courses during the school holiday period, most of which provide all the food and lodging for Cadets during the camp. However, these camps often last only one or two weeks and thus do not fill most of the summer vacation. This allowed the Cadets (who were 12-18 years old and therefore mostly schooled) to attend the camp while still finishing school normally.
Canada
In Canada, summer camps are very popular. About 70% of Canadian camps tend to affiliate with organizations, while the rest are private. There are also many summer camps for ESL students. Summer camp exhibits are held throughout Canada, usually during winter. Parents and children can meet the camp director and gather information about summer camps. Entry to the exhibition is usually free, and the exhibited camps vary in their cost from fully subsidized costs to quite expensive.
Chile
The Chilean InglÃÆ' à © s Abre Puertas (English Opens Doors) program from the Ministry of Education runs every January and July at the English-language Summer and Winter camp. Camps take place during student vacations, and are "designed to give Chilean high school talented general students an opportunity to practice English in more ways through interactive activities including role playing exercises, field trips, group projects, and competitive matches."
China
Most summer camps are sponsored by the education bureau. However, at this time, there are more camp programs being held privately. Traditional camps are only open to selected students in their respective school districts. In recent years, the program has started to open to children from different backgrounds and different areas. There are also programs tailored for international students interested in learning Chinese language and culture.
Croatian
The English summer camp of Euroclub on Solta island in Croatia is the largest international English summer camp on the Adriatic Sea, and the only camp that is completely dedicated to youth and children. Cyprus
In summer camp Cyprus is widely used for children. They are usually located in the mountains of Troodos and more specifically around Platres. Churches, governments, and organized groups provide funds for many children so they can join the summer camp for free.
Finnish
Many Finnish non-governmental organizations organize summer camps for children of all ages. The main organizers of summer camps are spies, sports teams, and orthodox and evangelical-Lutheran churches. The concept of summer camps emerged with the rapid post-World War II urbanization and natural Finland industrialization. The reasoning behind this is that the Finnish pedagogue of that period, influenced by the predominantly agrarian pre-World War II values, is convinced that the urban lifestyle is harmful to the development of children. The idea behind the summer camp is to ensure that children have experience in the countryside, an experience that will help in the development of becoming a viable citizen.
One Finnish tradition also emerged soon after World War II, were confirmatory camps. Affirmative camps, religious camps for youths aged 13-16, organized by local churches, aim to combine the concept of a traditional confirmation school and the concept of a renewed summer camp to combat the secularization of society. The concept is quite successful so far, 90% of all youth participate in confirmation camps. Camps require their participants to study certain religious texts, such as catechisms, and God's prayers. There are a number of non-religious alternatives to confirmation camps, such as Camp Prometheus, which aim to generate a positive intellectual and social atmosphere for camp attendees without religious studies.
French
In France they are called colonie de vacances or later central de vacances . According to the French administration, more than 25% of French children attend this "collective holiday" every year.
Greek
In summer camp Greece is widely known for offering organized holidays for children. They offer sports activities, entertainment activities, and educational activities. Children aged 5 - 15 years can join a summer camp and have the opportunity to interact with peers. The Greek government provides funds for many children so they can join the summer camp for free.
India
Summer camps in India are mainly located in the Himalayas in Northern India in the state of Uttarakhand in places like Uroli near Ranikhet, near the Tons river in Purola, near Ganges in Rishikesh, in Uttarkashi where many peaks such as Darba top are located, and in the region Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. At South India's popular summer camp in Coorg in the states of Karnataka and in Yercaud and Anaikkati in the state of Tamil Nadu. Activities at summer camps in India include rock climbing, re-packing, mountain biking, white water rafting, trekking, ropes, and jungle crafts. Many pre-schools in India such as Season Camp, G MaX, Gurukul Preschool (Hunar Summer Camp) AppleKids does Summer Camps for Children ages 2 to 12. Adventure activities for children are also popular in summer camps for the 7 to 18 year olds. Summer camps that focus on wildlife conservation have grown in popularity over the years. Many of these summer camps are also held in and around the metro such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune.
ireland
Summer camps in Ireland are traditionally in the form of Irish colleges in areas officially recognized as Irish-speaking as local languages, (called Gaeltachts). They are an Irish summer course that gives students the opportunity to be fully immersed in Irish, usually for a three-week period during the summer months. During this course students attend classes and participate in different game, music, art and sport activities. These courses not only give students the ability to improve their language skills but have also proven to be a vehicle for introducing traditional cultural activities (cÃÆ' à © ilÃÆ's, traditional Irish music, etc.) to a new generation.
While Irish colleges are still popular, more summer camps are now being offered to serve a wide range of interests. The sports camps that include Gaelic matches as well as rugby and football have proved very popular. Arts and crafts, cooking, acting, dancing and outdoor activities are some of the other niche camps available. There is also an increase in popularity for technical or computer camps. They cover areas such as web design, video production, desktop publishing, etc., reflecting the more modern and diverse Ireland.
Israel
Most of the summer camps in Israel are daily camps. There are several overnight camps where campers stay for two weeks. The summer camp affiliate last night was Jewish so they celebrated Shabbat and other Jewish holidays. Summer camps are international and are meant for Jewish children and adolescents from Israel and countries around the world.
Today, there are summer camps in almost every village and town, mostly run by a local authority or a particular organization. In addition, there are many camps organized by churches including many denominations. For example, all evangelical churches (mostly in Galilee) run a Vacation Bible School (VBS) that includes many activities for children. One overnight camp was called the Potter's Wheel Camp (PWC) which was originally started by Baptist missionaries at Baptist Village near Petach Tekvah. This camp continues to serve hundreds of children to this day.
Italy
In Italy, summer camps take place during student vacations (usually between June and August). MB International Summer Camp is the first camp in Italy where children and young adults can learn English or Italian in an international context. Due to a mixture of nationalities, both in the classroom and during the afternoon activities, some students find it easier to learn a new language. MB International Summer Camp is located in Lignano Sabbiadoro, a city 70 km north of Venice.
South Korea
The summer camp in South Korea is the British Immersion camp where the emphasis is on learning through structured learning, and especially special activities to ensure students use as much language as possible. South Korea is quite unique with its exaggerated emphasis on acquiring English skills, and teachers for these 2 to 4 week camps come from all over the English-speaking world. Some teachers are on vacation from their regular jobs in South Korea. Others come from their home country or other country where they may work, and are on a special visa only for camps.
Some employ many Korean staff as there are native English teachers to ensure the cultural and communications gaps narrow. A good camp should provide well-researched tools and texts for different levels of students. To maximize learning time spent, there should be no more than 11 students per class. In some camps, students are sleeping in dorm accommodation, which is monitored throughout the night by Korean staff. The other camps are day camps where most of the students are transported to and from the camp. Teachers spend most of their time with their students. They eat together, play sports together, and watch over them when there are special group activities. A similar camp is also offered on winter holidays. They are no less popular than summer camps
Malaysia
Summer camps in Malaysia are not as popular as in other countries. Children & amp; teenagers have fun together. But now, the summer camp is slowly gaining attention. The largest summer camp available is usually for children under 7 years old.
Russian
In the Soviet Union, the first summer camp was made shortly after its formation and was called the Pioneer Muda camps during the existence of the Soviet Union. Their numbers increased throughout the history of the Soviet Union and they numbered more than forty thousand in 1973, with 9.3 million children attending them during their vacations each year. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, the number of Pioneer Young strongholds greatly decreased. However, many major camps still exist. There are 2,726 Residential camps (with 2,000,000 children), and over 40,000 Day camps (3,500,000 children) in Russia (2006). Most of them were united by the All-Russian Camp Association "Deti Plus" (Children Plus) in 1994. There is also a forum for Summer's children's health leader - planerochka
Swedish
The Swedish Church provides confirmation camps, usually combined with outdoor life. Summer camps are often a single sports camp
Tunisia
Every year during the summer school holidays, the Youth and Science Association organizes Scientific encampments in many areas of Tunisia where children and young people can learn new skills, develop their potential and have fun.
Turkish
United Kingdom
Summer camps are not a major part of childhood in the United Kingdom, in the way they are in North America. Summer school holidays are shorter - usually 6 weeks for public school students. Children are more likely to go on long family vacation (at least 2 weeks) during this period than Camp only for children (UK parents get longer vacation leave from their jobs than US parents facilitate long family summer vacations). The industry body is called the British Activity Holiday Association. Camps in the UK are also generally less specialized than in the United States and most offer an extensive program of adventure activity activities along with some fun social elements. This is partly because summer camps in the UK grow as a branch of the leisure industry activities and are therefore influenced by their outdoor adventure program. Britain over the last few decades has a number of organizations that have established themselves along traditional models with diverse holiday options as well as themed camps and big event days. Some religious groups, such as Christadelphians, were also well-publicized and attended camps throughout the country. A number of youth organizations, such as the Scout Association, Army Army Forces and Air Training Corps often run special summer camps for their membership, although these are usually not open to non-members.
The Council of Colony Holidays for Schoolchildren runs a summer camp called "Colony" from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s. Colonies are not based on outdoor searches or "action-adventure" models, but are multi-activity holidays designed to appeal to very diverse children. The organization is based on a French model, and unique in the UK because young volunteers working directly with children (known as "Watchdogs") are prepared for their work in training courses designed and run by organizations. After Colony Holidays folded in the 1980s, Chris Green, one of their former staff, prepared ATE Superweeks to provide the same holiday. He also campaigned for summer camps to become more supported and to help change the lives of children.
Camps in the UK with more specific activities include ACT 2 CAM, acting screen and movie-making course, and Sunshine Studios Hip Hop Summer School. Any summer camp or holiday in England that takes care of children under 8 years old must be registered with Ofsted, which will check the service provider and ensure the camp is safe and children are properly treated. Camps with older children can also be registered with Ofsted and this is a sign of quality control.
United States
The American Camp Association (ACA) reports that there are about 7,000 camps overnight and about 5,000 camp days in the US, with a total of more than 12,000 camps. These camps are attended annually by over 11 million children and adults. Of the 12,000 camps, approximately 9,500 are operated by nonprofit groups, and 2,500 by non-profit operators, employing over 1,500,000 adults. The sports camps are abundant, offering single and group teaching in a variety of sports and activities, often as preparation for sports and college scholarships.
In the United States, youth organizations such as Scouts, Scouts, 4-H, JCC, YMCA, Kemah Fire, and several religious affiliated groups are known to have many camps and integrate them with their own local organizations. Since 2008, the United States has been home to the world's first children's sleep camp for transgender children. It's called Camp Aranu'tiq and caters camping 8 - 18. It won the Eleanor P. Eells Award from the American Camp Association in 2012.
Education camp
In the United States there are many camp models with an educational focus that serve students with different ages and academic interests.
College credit courses
Some camps offer students the opportunity to explore experiences before college. Typically, students enter classes 10 to 12 live in college dorms and attend summer classes run by college faculty. Upon successful completion of the summer program, the course credit is awarded, which in turn is accepted by most tertiary institutions. Typically, colleges in the United States and Canada offer this program, as it serves as an introduction for students to attract them to attend college as full-time students based on an unforgettable summer experience.
Non-college credit course
Some camps, such as CTY and Duke TIP, are focused primarily on educational or educational activities such as debate, history, or journalism. These camps are often managed by colleges or universities, and are usually for children in junior or senior high school. Instruction in debates and speeches are also available for high school students and high school students entering across the country. Education summer camps differ from summer schools because summer camps are often not offered for school credit, and often have a significant focus on non-academic activities. Students for this program are often invited or recruited. Many of these camps, such as Canada/USA Mathcamp and SSP, focus on specific subjects, such as mathematics or astronomy. These camps tend to have selective application processes involving problem solving or essays about the applicant's interest in the subject.
Academic adventure camp
It provides high school students with the opportunity to study academic topics on summer adventure travel programs, usually in the wilderness or foreign countries. Many include community services as a component of the course. Others also offer college credit with successful completion of the program.
SAT preparation course
The various camp programs offer preparation for the SAT reasoning test as part of a mixture of academic learning with the fun of summer. Often SAT preparations are offered as a full-fledged morning soak while afternoon and evening are directed to homework and recreational activities. These camp programs often outsource their SAT components from exam preparation firms such as The Princeton Review or Kaplan that provide teachers and resources.
Enrichment Course
These programs offer a variety of classes that may have little or no overlapping scholastics, but are taught with the aim of expanding students' conceptions and interests in many unknown field of study. Students usually explore subjects such as photography, community service, drama, magic, scuba diving, video production, comic book design, forensic crime scenes, cooking, yoga, and similar areas.
Science and nature
Summer camps provide tremendous opportunities for children to learn firsthand. Camps provide unlike school opportunities, often opening up a natural world for children who may never be outside. They can use the natural environment and get the children back to nature. More and more child psychologists say that children need to spend unstructured and outside time.
Canada
Several famous summer camps that focus on science and nature in Canada include Deep River Science Academy, Shad Valley, a number of university-sponsored camps including the University of Toronto Outreach, Space Camp Canada and now the Algonquin Space Campus held at Algonquin Observatory Radio. Safari Science is another camp located in Oakville Ontario and provides camping adventure in learning about their world.
Tech camps
Tech camp focus on technology education. This summer camp develops 21st century skills in areas such as game design, 3D gaming, web design, graphic design, robot development, and programming languages. This summer camp is usually held on campuses. Many universities now offer summer-focused technology camps as a way to reach students in the future, generate revenue and provide community service coverage.
Foreign language and cultural camp
To meet the growing demand for language education, language camps have grown throughout the United States. Many of these summer programs are organized by high school. Colleges and universities have also made camps use their facilities to host younger students. Foreign countries have established summer schools in the United States to offer education on their culture and language. The growing popularity of summer language camps may be linked to an ever-increasing interest in languages âânot normally offered in the US high school curriculum. Arabic, Mandarin, and Korean are examples of languages ââof interest that do not often appear in the curriculum.
Art and performance art camp
Other camps have become summer training venues for various arts. Many offer elective classes in a variety of creative and performing arts activities including visual arts, music, theater, speech, debate, dance, circus art, rock and roll, magic, and other specialties. Some of these programs have a narrow focus in one particular area, while others offer various programs. Due to the popularity of these activities, many traditional camps have added some visual art elements and performances into their programs as well. Some camps offer high level instruction and performance opportunities; this is like camping which with previous experience and skills may be able to perform solos in front of symphony orchestras or create their own artistic work. Most summer art and performing arts camps also serve beginners, offering children the chance to try new arts or learn new skills.
Often the camp will have a variety of totems or traditions that move from one camping group to another, with each group adding something that shows their time in the camp, often like a time capsule. Totem painted, woodcut, and event programs often accumulate as sacred objects that pass from one group to the next. Cheer Camp has popularized the concept of spirit stick. Art camp performances often last for 3 or 4 weeks that lead to a kind of show that is attended by parents and family.
Tourist camp â ⬠<â â¬
Many camps also bring children of all ages around the world. Some camps are often called "Adventure Camps", often with very specific themes. Many of these programs emphasize skills development and personal growth through the adventures offered.
Sports camp
Summer camps can be found that offer intensive instruction in almost any imaginable sport, or that offer quality instruction and competition in a variety of sports. The camps are divided into groups of camp days and camps overnight. In the United States, the overnight sports camp falls into two groups. The more traditional these offer boys and girls the opportunity to learn and play a lot of sports. Sessions are usually 3 to 8 weeks, and some camps have several sessions. While many strong athletes attend these camps, traditional sports camp programs also serve the needs of less skilled athletes by getting all campers to compete in a team chosen by ability, so that all children have the opportunity to contribute to the success of their team in their daily competition. Some of these camps have been in operation for over 100 years. These camps are generally focused, through team sports media, on the development of all children; not just how they are as athletes, but also how they are as a person, bunkmate, teammates, and friends. Many of these camps include various non-sports programs as well as for more diverse experiences.
Many sports camps are the second type, focusing almost exclusively on one particular sport. These camps are generally focused on helping each campgain acquire skills in sports that help them gain confidence and increase their chances of making teams when they return to school. Indeed, some campers are helped to compete nationally by means of intensive summer training of this kind. These camps generally run sessions for a week, and some campers can attend more than one session even though the curriculum repeats every week. Some single sports camps offer longer sessions. Many instructors in these camps are local team coaches, and so many athletes get valuable extra time with coaches they play during the school year (or coaches they expect to play during the upcoming school year). Such camps are also a good way to learn about the potential of college scholarships in their sport.
Both multi-sport and one-sport camps tend to be run by experienced teachers and trainers (who usually have summer vacations out of their school responsibilities). Cabin staff, instructors, and counselors are usually college athletes. The best sports camps successfully challenge athletes who have ambitions both mentally and physically, while also promoting their social and leadership skills. This was made possible in part because many counselors were present as campers, and therefore there was a vibrant "camp culture" that welcomed the new campers into an extended camp family and set the high standards expected of the upcoming campers. The best sports camps do more than improve the skills of soccer, tennis, lacrosse, or wrestling at camp; they help each child become a more skilled athlete, a friendlier competitor, a more committed team player, and a more confident person.
Weight loss camp
Weight or "fat" camps are for overweight kids, teens, and adults to learn about losing weight and keeping it up while having a summer camp experience.
Emotional education camp
Such camps are a new way to improve children's emotional intelligence. There are several examples from these camps, worldwide, such as the emotional camp RumbendÃÆ'll ll, based in Seville, Spain.
