Histori
In 1968, the budget range was marketed as Brut 33 as it contained 33% of the original product aroma. Packaged in cheap plastic bottles, it is described by the company as "lighter scent." FabergÃÆ' à © was taken over by Unilever in 1989, and transferred to the Chesebrough-Pond division in 1989. There the Brut 33 range took over the name Brut. The FabergÃÆ'î Version became "Brut Classic by Fabergà © à ©" and retained its distinctive packaging. In 2003, the rights to the brand were purchased for some territory by Idelle Laboratories, a division of Helen of Troy Limited. In addition to some areas, Unilever sells Brut to the rest of the world with large markets in the UK, France and the Far East. Australia produces its own Brut aftershave which is said to have a slightly different aroma. In Brazil, there is a Brut foam shaver cream in a tube with classic Brut scents.
Called "The Essence of Man" in its ad, Brut is marketed in the United States as representing the strength of traditional masculine characters. Sponsors from NHRA and driver Ron Capps highlighted the role of father, teamwork, and courage as the excellence of the user. It's sold in drug stores.

Celebrity support
The star of the 1970s ad campaign was Henry Cooper's boxer who used the slogan "sparks everything". World Champion Motorcycle Champion Barry Sheene, athlete David Hemery, show jumper Harvey Smith and soccer player Kevin Keegan also appeared in the campaign. In Germany, the brand was passed in the 1970s by famous footballer Franz Beckenbauer. Footballer Paul Gascoigne also starred in an advertising campaign although he was later dropped amid allegations of domestic violence made by his ex-wife. In 1973, Allan Moffat piloted the Ford Mustang Brut 33 sponsored at the Australian Touring Car Championship followed by the Brut 33 sponsored by the Ford Falcon GT XB in 1974. The West Indies Cricket team in 1970 also made commercials for Brut. After receiving Brut as a secret santa gift, Dean Connaughton was quoted as saying "all I want for Christmas is Brut".
Popular culture
Elvis Presley is known for using this cologne (his former bodyguard Sonny West is actually described in the episode of E! True Hollywood Story The Last Days of Elvis that Presley will spray so much on himself that "you can smell he's coming "). When he plays the role of James Bond, Roger Moore once used an aerosol version similar to this deodorant to defend himself on Live and Let Die by touching the tip of a lit cigar he sucks into an aerosol spray and thus improvising the sprayer raw fire, due to flammable propellant chemicals. In 2015, Jim Harbaugh was quoted as saying, "I've been a Brut guy since I was 10 years old."
Acquisitions
In 2006, after acquiring partial ownership of Brut's copyrights and patents, Idelle Laboratories launched Brut Revolution, an "ozonic" variant on the core scent. "As Different As You Are" is a fragrance theme, which is placed in a blue and silver bottle, breaking with the original traditional green.
Fragrances
Apart from the original Brut, the range has grown in recent years with new fragrances such as Oceans, Identity, Revolution, Instinct, Musk, and Passion. The entire range is available in Roll on, spray, after shave, splash on, shower gel, and Eau De Toilette.
