History
In 1930, Emanuel Stolaroff started a small company called Natone . Soon, he grew into a bigger business, and he began to expand it into the retail market. Stolaroff met with Belgian chemist Edmond Fromont in 1954, and gained the right to distribute a patented formula of mild soap that cleans the skin, without drying it, in the United States. At that time, Lloyd Cotsen had entered the Stolaroff family by marrying his daughter, Joanne Stolaroff. In 1962, the company name was officially converted to Neutrogena Corporation; Cotsen became president in 1967.
The company was listed openly on the NASDAQ in 1973, with a market value of $ 1.2 million. Cotsen started marketing soap through 2 main channels: dermatologist and luxury hotel. Neutrogena managed to avoid any major price war, as happened to other big companies of that generation. It launches a product line in acne and anti-aging areas. In 1982, profits reached US $ 3 million, and Cotsen was named CEO.
In 1994, Johnson & amp; Johnson acquired Neutrogena for $ 924 million, at a price of $ 35.25 per share. Johnson & amp; Johnson's international network helps Neutrogena boost its sales and enter new markets including India, South Africa and China. Given a premium price, Neutrogena products are distributed in over 70 countries. The company has large subsidiaries in Canada, UK, South Korea and India.
