The multifaith or multifaith prayer room is a quiet location set aside in busy public areas (hospitals, universities, airports, etc.) Where people of different religious beliefs , or none at all, can spend time in contemplation or prayer. Many of these spaces are "small, clean and largely unadorned" areas, which can be adapted and used for any religious or spiritual practice. Rarely, people of different faiths can gather in such spaces in the context of multifaith worship services.
Space may or may not be a special place of worship. A recent research project at the University of Manchester, UK has conceptualized the modern multifaith space as "a deliberate space, designed for the homes of both religious practice plurality, as well as the address of a clearly defined pragmatic purpose."

Design concept
The Manchester University study highlights two key factors for multifaith space for work:
- Balance is achieved for different users who are most likely to use space on a regular basis, thus preventing conflict. All norms and values ââneed to be considered and respected, which often leads to "an unstable balance in which different worldviews can be put together." Social cooperation and openness should be possible in the space.
- Most multifaith space maintains a very basic design, to minimize the visibility of a single religious group, while still adaptable to various practices that space can utilize. Each space raises questions about ethics and "national style", in which different religious members can participate in a mutually respectful, but cooperative way.
