Mary's Prayer is a sophisti-pop song by Scottish pop/rock group Danny Wilson: introduced on 1987's debut album Meet Meetanny Wilson, "Mary's Prayer" will eventually become a Top Ten hit in the British Isles and also Top 40 hits in the US.

The composer, Gary Clark, said of "Mary's Prayer": "I certainly do not think it's the best song on this album but it's probably the most accessible and therefore the best choice for the first single". Clark has written "Mary's Prayer" while Danny Wilson is a band house at Dundee the Swamp nightclub as soon as the group (later known as Spencer Tracy) formed in 1984.
The song has been described as an "extended Catholic metaphor," although Clark has denied the religious significance inserted in his composition: "There are many religious images in the song but it is really just a tool for connecting the present and the future.".. "Basically this is just a simple love song, even I like to think of it as country and western song".
"Mary's Prayer" was released as a three-time singles between February 1987 and March 1988 in the UK, reaching number 3 on the UK Singles Chart in all three releases. The initial British release in February 1987 reached just at number 86, but became a hit in Ireland (number 5), Germany (number 35) and South Africa (number 10).
The release of "Mary's Prayer" in June 1987 provided a peak of 23 on Hot 100 in Billboard magazine while on Billboard 'Adult Contemporary chart "Mary's Doa" rose as high as number 6. Virgin Records The US for the single includes a full-page ad run in the trade journal of the music industry with support from Mike Bone, head of promotions for rival Elektra Records label. The ad reproduces a Bone cable sent to Virgin Records saying "'Prayer Mary' is my life" and encourages "Do Mike Bone Favor" Add "Prayer of Mary" from Danny Wilson Bones have granted Virgin Records permission to use its support to promote single, but "think they just buried him [in between] another testimony."
The success of the US "Mary's Prayer" sparked a second British release in August 1987, with number 42 produced by the UK chart chart. The single was then topped polling polls via BBC 1 radio from the listener's nomination for the 1987 single that failed to hit. Clark credits this poll with British Virgin Records decision to republish "Mary's Prayer" for the third time in March 1988, with this release producing UK number 3 peak charts. The release of "Prayer of Mary" in March 1988 English was labeled "Paul Staveley O'Duffy remix" but, according to Gary Clark, "[Though] they remixed on it ... it's basically the same note ".
On September 24, 2014, Danny Wilson's members performed "Prayer Mary" at the opening gala of Ryder Cup at Hydro Arena in Glasgow, marking the band's only performance since 1989.

A remake of "Mary's Prayer" by BBMak presented as B-side of their Top 10 in 2000 (UK) hit "Still on Your Side". The song was also re-created by Jason Donovan, his version appeared on his 2010 album Soundtrack of the 80s .
