History

The festival, celebrated in Spain in the 16th century, was then introduced to Italy by Saint Gaspar del Bufalo.

For many dioceses, there are two days where the Office of the Blood is assigned, an office in which both cases are the same. The reason is this: the office was originally given to the Fathers of the Most Precious Blood alone. Then, as one of the offices of Lent Friday, it was commissioned for Friday after the fourth Sunday in Lent in several dioceses, including, with the decision of Baltimore's Fourth Provincial Council (1840), which is in the United States.

When Pope Pius IX went into exile in Gaeta in the Second Kingdom of Sicily (1849), he had as his companion, Father Giovanni Merlini, the third superior general of the Fathers of the Most Precious Blood. After they arrived at Gaeta, Don Merlini suggested that His Holiness vowed to extend the feast of the Holy Blood to the whole Church, if he would again restore the possession of the Papal State. The pope considered this issue, but a few days later, on 30 June 1849, the day when the French army conquered Rome and the Roman Republican rebellion surrendered, he sent his prelate, Joseph Stella, to Pastor Merlini with the message: "The pope does not consider it necessary to bind him with but His Majesty will gladly deliver the feast to the whole Christian world. "

On August 10 of the same year, he officially included the Most Valuable Blood Blood party of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Roman General Calendar for the celebration of the first Sunday in July, the first Sunday after 30 June, the anniversary of the liberation of Rome from the rebel.

In reducing the number of parties set for Sunday, Pope Pius X commissioned July 1 for the party.

In 1933, Pope Pius XI lifted the party to the rank of Double of the 1st Class to mark the 1st anniversary of Jesus' death.

In the revised Pope John XXIII of 1960 from the Roman General Calendar, the party was classified as first class (see Roman Calendar 1960).

The feast was removed from the Roman General Calendar in 1969, "because of the Most Precious Blood of Christ, the Redeemer has been glorified in the Passion, Corpus Christi, Sacred Heart of Jesus, and at the Feast of the Holy Cross, but the Most Valuable Blood Mass from God We Jesus Christ is placed among the vows of the vows.

Significance

In Catholic beliefs, the Blood of Christ is precious because of the great self-sacrifice of Christ paying the redemption of mankind. In this conviction, because there is no forgiveness of sins without bloodshed, "The incarnate word" not only offers his life for the salvation of the world, but he offers to surrender his life to bloody death, and to hang without blood, without soul and death on the Cross the salvation of mankind. Jesus is said to have given his life - his blood - for the whole of humanity, redeeming every form of human sin.

The Noble Blood is a call to repentance and reparation.

Prayer

"O God, who by the Blessed Blood of Your Only Begotten Son has redeemed the whole world, preserves in us the work of your mercy, so that, in honor of the mystery of our salvation, we may be worthy of its fruit." Through us the Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, reign with you in unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. "

The hymn at the party was Salvete Christi Vulnera, known at least since 1798.
